New Season, New Reason: How to Enjoy a New Journey

New Season, New Reason: How to Enjoy a New Journey

Today I cleaned my old office and I am a bit sad because I had to say Good Bye to a career I loved! The departure is not a hurtful or a bitter one; I am leaving due to medical reasons and because I have to put my health first. However, that does not make it less sad knowing how much I loved the people I worked with, my job and various assignments I had over the years, as well as the community I served for so many years.

I am very proud of my career accomplishments and I cannot feel more blessed but I am also a bit scared since next week I am beginning a new journey, a new career….a new chapter in my life.

For months I doubted my decision to medically retire because at 46 is not that easy to start a new career and job in a completely new and foreign field. I also questioned my place in life and I tried to analyze how did I get here or why “it happened” to me. The more I thought about it, the more God was telling me not to be afraid and to let go; easier said than done! How could I let it go after so many years? After all, I had a plan and retiring at 46 was not a part of it.

When I made peace with it all, I realized God guided my steps and enlightened my path to make a healthy decision and one that is best for me. Even though I was in the dark for a few months (or so I thought), God prepared me for a new journey and answered my prayers, blessing me with a new job and career. God had another plan all along and I am comforted to know He is my Pilot and has it all figured it out since I don’t J.

Today, I am happy for a new beginning and looking forward to this new chapter in my life so I wanted to share how to remain joyful in the transition if you are feeling unsure or down at times:

  1. PRAY! – Nothing calms my spirit more than prayer and knowing that God is with me and He does answers prayers. The Bible is sprinkled with encouraging words and verses that remind us God is with us, He always keeps His promises, He loves us and that all we have to do is have faith.
  2. Do Something that is Uplifting – For some is reading, watching movies, arts & crafts, cooking or baking; for me, is working out and yoga. Find something that makes you happy and you truly enjoy! Not only you will feel recharged and renewed, but you feel better and more energized.
  3. Be Still – As I mentioned in a previous post, STOP Being in Control, I know it is hard not to control or push things along to make things happen but the truth is, when we do so, many times we make a mess that we later have to clean. So remember God’s promise not only that he will provide (Philippians 4:19) but also that anything is possible with Him if we only wait for Him and the things He has in store for us: “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10) remind us that nothing is impossible for Him and that He “will fight for you; you need only to be Still” (Exodus 14:14).
  4. Enjoy the Journey! – Whether in transition or you already started a new chapter in your life, enjoy it; learn from the past but don’t fret and dwell on it. Let it go and instead, enjoy the Now and the plans God has for you in the new season!

Everything has a purpose and for every thing there is a season as Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 reminds us: “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.”

New seasons are good; they help us awaken, get restored, and give us new reasons to hope, dream, and find new passions! Just Let God Direct Your Steps (Proverbs 3:6) and wonderful things are going to happen in this new journey and beyond!

May God bless you!
